CONTUSION - Mid

A forearm with purple bruising across the impact zone: the classic mid-stage contusion. It reads instantly as blunt-force trauma and communicates pain without open injury, making it ideal for teaching responders to assess darker skin tone bruising, hidden damage and handle casualties with appropriate care.

  • A casualty is found at the base of a ladder on a construction site after a fall; responders must assess for fracture, internal bleeding, and compartment syndrome without the benefit of X-rays, and decide on evacuation priority.
  • A sports first-aider encounters a player who took a direct blow to the forearm during contact play; the learning objective is early recognition of crush injury risk and decisions around ice, elevation, and when to refer to A&E.
