BURN - Epidermal
About this wound
A bright red, uniform epidermal burn across the back of the hand and fingers, created with the Burns Wheel to show acute thermal injury without blistering or deeper damage. This effect reads clearly at distance and immediately signals to responders that pain management and cooling are priorities, making it ideal for triage and primary assessment training.
Scenario ideas
- A remote-wilderness scenario where an individual has sustained sunburn to the hand and arm after long periods of sun exposure on an exercise. Heat exhaustion and dehydration may be present after lack of fluids throughout the day.
- School playground scenario: A child receives a burn from touching playground equipment on a hot day. Carers and first aiders must manage the child's anxiety, assess the injury, and communicate with parents while deciding on cooling and observation.
